The national capital, Delhi, has become a gas chamber these days. Delhi’s air quality has been recorded in the severe category for the third consecutive day. Because of this, the third phase of the Graduated Response Action Plan (GRAP) was implemented on Friday. According to ‘Sameer’ app, the air quality index (AQI) in Delhi was recorded at 411 at 9 am, which falls in the ‘severe’ category.

Earlier, Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘very poor’ category for 14 consecutive days. Due to the continued deterioration of air quality in Delhi, authorities have been forced to impose restrictions with immediate effect under the third phase of the anti-pollution plan.
GRAP occurs in four stages
The GRAP for Delhi-NCR has been divided into four air quality phases. The first phase of the GRAP is for a “poor” air quality index (AQI) between 201 and 300. The second phase of the GRAP is for a “very poor” AQI (301-400). The third stage of GRAP is for “severe” AQI (401-450) and the fourth stage is for “very severe” AQI (above 450).

In the third phase of GRAP, construction activities were banned in Delhi-NCR. According to this, all interstate buses coming from states bordering NCR are prohibited from reaching here. Only electric vehicles, CNG vehicles and BS-4 and diesel buses can enter here.
Online classes started
In addition to this, strict restrictions have also been imposed on construction and demolition activities. In the third phase of GRAP, online classes have been organized for students up to fifth grade. Water irrigation will be carried out daily on the main roads.

The Delhi government and NCR neighbors Gurugram, Faridabad, Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddha Nagar have imposed strict restrictions on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel (four-wheelers), the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM). Any violation will attract a fine of Rs 20,000.

IMD said there was dense fog in Delhi. Visibility at Safdarjung was reduced to 400 meters at 7am on Friday. The Meteorological Department said that in the coming days there is a possibility of dense fog during the day in Delhi and the maximum temperature will be 29 degrees Celsius. The air quality in Delhi has been the worst in the country for the last two days.
