News from Chandigarh, Derabassi: Punjab Minority Commission Chairman Abdul Bari Salmani said the central government’s Waqf Amendment Bill is incorrect. His party is against this bill because the Waqf has been made by Muslims and Muslims have the first right over the Waqf properties. President Salmani had come to Derabassi to participate in the state-level meeting of the All India Jamaat-e-Salmani fraternity.

Abdul Bari said that his party does not agree with these Waqf bills and has expressed its stance against these bills pending their consideration in the Joint Parliamentary Committee. He said his protest was motivated by protecting minority interests rather than politics. When asked if many communities belonging to the Muslim community are in favor of this bill, the president said that such people are unaware of the far-reaching harmful effects of the bill. Among the minorities of Punjab, he works for the welfare of communities like Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, Jain, etc. He is trying to solve their social, land and cemetery problems through a government initiative. They want to work hard to provide benefits of various government schemes, including the upliftment of minority society, scholarships in children’s education, cooperation in skill development, health insurance, etc. In these, conflicts are also resolved in coordination with the Waqf Board.
