The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a case against a key accused involved in supplying illegal arms and ammunition to Manipur and other states of the country. This information was given in an official statement released on Friday. The charge sheet was filed in the special NIA court on Thursday against Solomona alias Haminga alias Lalmithanga, a resident of Mizoram, the statement said. According to the statement issued by the investigating agency, the NIA had registered a case against Lalangaihouma, Lalmuanawama and others on December 26 last year.
This case was registered based on information that some people from Mizoram are part of a gang involved in smuggling of arms, ammunition, explosives etc. in the northeastern region of the country. The investigation revealed that Solomona, along with Lalngaihoma, Lalmuanawma and others, were involved in a criminal conspiracy to acquire and supply arms, ammunition and explosive materials to Myanmar and from there to Manipur, which were used for various violent subversive purposes. Campaigns were to be carried out aimed at promoting enmity between groups.
He said Solomona was found to be in possession of prohibited weapons and ammunition without a licence. According to the NIA investigation, Solomona was also involved in raising funds to further the criminal conspiracy and purchased arms and ammunition for use in illegal and terrorist activities in the northeastern states.
