As soon as there is a change of power in the United States, Iran’s attitude begins to change. The nuclear chief of the United Nations (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, visited two important nuclear centers in Iran on Friday. After Trump’s victory, Iran showed its willingness to compromise on its nuclear program to ease the imposed sanctions, after which the IAEA chief arrived in Iran with his team.
Israel, the United States and many Western countries have expressed objections to Iran’s nuclear program. With the return of Donald Trump, Iran fears that he will impose stricter sanctions under the pretext of a nuclear program.

Iran close to making a nuclear bomb
Grossi visited Iran’s nuclear sites at Natanz and Ford. In February of last year, the Fordon deposit, located about 100 kilometers south of Tehran, became the main cause of tension due to its uranium production. Here inspectors found uranium particles enriched up to 83.7 percent in the underground facility. Which is close to making a nuclear bomb.
Iran said it had started enriching uranium up to 60 percent in its Fords two years ago, while Iran’s nuclear program is reportedly very close to 90 percent enrichment to make an atomic bomb. For this reason Iran is the target of Western countries. During his previous term, Trump had separated the United States from this agreement on the nuclear program with Iran.
A nuclear deal can be finalized
The meeting of the IAEA Board of Governors is scheduled for next week. Several European countries are advocating for a resolution to increase scrutiny of Iran’s nuclear program and pressure it to return to talks. The IAEA Chief’s visit is believed to be the result of this pressure: the IAEA monitors nuclear programs around the world.
This change in Iran’s stance is surprising, because just a year ago, Iran had imposed sanctions on nearly a third of the members of the IAEA monitoring team. Tehran had branded the foreign inspectors “extremists,” further raising tensions between Iran and the international community over its nuclear activities. Now Iran is expressing its desire for cooperation before Trump’s return.

The Iranian media has described this visit by the IAEA team as positive. Meanwhile, the head of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, Mohammad Islami, warned that any IAEA Board of Governors resolution criticizing Iran’s nuclear program would receive a strong response.
