New Delhi. Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi raised the issue of the plight of farmers during the election campaign in Maharashtra. Criticizing the ruling Mahayuti government, he claimed that Maharashtra had purchased only 3,888 MT of soybean, while Telangana had purchased around 25,000 MT of soybean. The Congress said this is the difference between those who are committed to the welfare of farmers and those who are committed to their pockets and power. The Congress MP said the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) will take a historic step for farmers in Maharashtra by fixing Rs 7,000 per quintal and bonus for soybean.
The MVA will give our farmers their rights, fruits of hard work and justice, Gandhi said in a post on Twitter. He also said that the MVA will form a committee to decide the fair price of onion and the correct minimum support price (MSP) for cotton. The Manipur Congress and other regional organizations have strongly condemned the reimposition of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA) in six police station areas of Manipur. State Congress chief Casham Meghchandra criticized the decision and said it was a clear indication of the failure of the central and state governments to address the ongoing agitation in the state. In a post on Twitter, he said the reimposition of AFSPA in districts like Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Jiribam and Kangpokpi shows the inability of the BJP-led government to restore peace after 18 months of unrest. The police station areas where AFSPA has been reimposed are Sekmai and Lamsang in Imphal West district, Lamlai in Imphal East district, Jiribam in Jiribam district, Leemakhong in Kangpokpi and Moirang in Bishnupur. Meghchandra further expressed concern that this move could pave the way for implementation of AFSPA across Manipur, thereby increasing fear among the local population. The highest body of the Manipur Integrity Coordination Committee has also strongly opposed this decision. COCOMI spokesperson K. Athauba questioned the rationale behind the reintroduction of the AFSPA and urged the Center to clarify how the Act will help restore peace and normalcy.
Everyone is disappointed with the anti-farmer policies of the BJP government.
The former Congress president said that during the last three elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has promised an MSP of Rs 6,000 for soybean, but even today farmers are forced to sell the soybean grown with their hard work for Rs 3,000. at 4,000 rupees. . Earlier, Gandhi had claimed that soyabean and cotton producing farmers in Maharashtra are disappointed by the anti-farmer policies of the BJP-led government. The Congress leader had promised that the Indian opposition alliance would resolve its problems once the government was formed in the state.
He listened to the farmers’ problems.
The former Congress president interacted with soybean and cotton farmers of Maharashtra through video conferencing and listened to their problems. Rahul Gandhi would visit Chikhli in the Buldhana district of Maharashtra, which is close to the polls, to address a rally of soybean and cotton farmers.
