Why is the fear of the Chirag model worrying Nitish’s party again in these Bihar elections?

Chirag Paswan and Nitish Kumar

In the Tirhut Legislative Council by-election in Bihar, Nitish Kumar’s party once again fears following Chirag’s model. In fact, in the by-elections to the Legislative Council in Tirhut, considered a stronghold of the JDU, Rakesh Roshan, close to Chirag Paswan, rebelled and entered the fray.

JDU is afraid of ruining their game here due to Roshan’s entry into the field. However, JDU is yet to say anything officially about Roshan’s candidature.

This time these 4 main candidates are in the running

This time, 4 candidates have contested the Tirhut by-elections. Janata Dal United has named spokesperson Abhishek Jha as its candidate from here. Vinayak Gautam is contesting from Prashant Kishore’s party. Rakesh Roshan, close to Chirag, has contested as an independent.

Roshan had contested against Tejashwi Yadav from Raghapur seat in the 2020 elections. Roshan got 24,947 votes in this election. Roshan was till now the state vice president of LJP(R).

Tejashwi Yadav along with Congress and MLA have fielded Gopi Kishan from here. The final scrutiny of all candidates will take place on November 19. After this the candidates will be officially announced.

4 district policy is decided from Tirhut

The Tirhut Legislative Council election directly affects the politics of 4 districts of Bihar. Actually, voters from Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Sitamarhi and Shivhar vote for this Legislative Council seat.

According to the Local Election Commission, Muzaffarpur has a maximum number of 70 thousand voters. After this, there are around 42 thousand voters in Sitamadhi. 36,000 voters in Vaishali and 6,000 voters in Shivhar decide the fate of the candidates in these Tirhut elections.

Why is there fear that the Chirag model will ruin the game?

In 2020, when Legislative Council elections were held in Tirhut, JDU-backed Devesh Chandra Thakur came to the House winning by just 11,000 votes. Devesh Chandra Thakur has been very popular from here but this time Abhishek Jha is in the fight instead of Thakur.

In 2020, Devesh Thakur was contesting from RJD. This time Prashant Kishore’s party is also in the fray. PK has chosen famous Muzaffarpur radiologist Vinayak Gautam as his candidate.

Amidst all this, Chirag’s candidate is going to increase the tension for the JDU. If any match is held in Tirhut before 2025, it will not be a good sign for JDU.

JDU has been in a strong position in these areas of north Bihar. Currently, JDU has Lok Sabha MP from Sitamarhi and Shivhar.

JDU has taken a hit from Chirag Model

Nitish Kumar’s party suffered a setback due to the JDU Chirag model in the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections and the 2024 Rupauli by-election. In 2024 Rupauli, rebel Shankar Singh of the Chirag Party defeated Kaladhar Mandal badly. of the JDU. JDU had won this seat in 2020.

In the 2020 assembly elections, Chirag Paswan’s party broke ties with the NDA and fielded candidates for 140 seats in Bihar. In all the elections, Chirag’s party won only one seat, but spoiled the JDU’s lead by about 45 seats.

Due to this, JDU became the third in Bihar. In 2022, JDU mentioned the Chirag model for the first time and the party said that if the Chirag model had not been made, JDU would have been the number one party in Bihar.
