As per the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) 3 implemented in NCR, the district administration has adopted a strict approach to prevent the spread of pollution and its causes. In this regard, Deputy Commissioner Munish Sharma met the officials on Saturday and instructed the concerned officials regarding the directions of the National Green Tribunal (NGT). During this, he also discussed the possibility of implementing Group 4 and instructed the officials involved to take precautions. He said in view of the level of pollution, concerned departments should ensure that all instructions are strictly followed.

At the meeting, he said that it is necessary to regularly spray trees and plants along all main streets of the city with water so that dust does not accumulate on them. Anti-smog weapons should be deployed after identifying locations with high levels of dust. Similarly, diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in the district should be acted upon and confiscated. He asked police officers to ensure that traffic flows smoothly on all major routes in the city.

Negligence in pollution control will not be tolerated.

He said the Central Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has issued necessary guidelines and orders to check the rising pollution in the districts of the National Capital Region. Whatever responsibilities the district administration has assigned to the departments should be strictly fulfilled in the district. He said that any negligence in pollution control will not be tolerated at all. The head of the concerned department must appoint a nodal officer and ensure that ATR is sent regularly.

Action will be taken if grape rules are ignored

The deputy commissioner directed the departments to regularly visit construction sites and industrial units in the district and take strict action against those who ignore the grape rules, irregularities and negligence. During the same, responses were also sought from the Pollution Control Board officials in the industrial zones regarding the measures taken so far. It has also given instructions to strictly prohibit burning of garbage.

There will be a ban on these activities.

After the implementation of the third phase of the lockdown, all types of activities related to construction and demolition will be prohibited in the district. Earthworks for excavation and filling, including drilling and boring work, laying of sewer pipes, water pipes, drainage and electrical wiring, etc. through open trench systems, brick and masonry work, painting, polishing and varnishing work.

Cutting tiles, stones and other flooring materials.

Road construction activities and major repairs, movement, loading/unloading of dust-generating materials such as cement, bricks, sand, pebbles, stones, etc. inside/outside project sites, movement of vehicles transporting construction materials on unpaved roads.

The deputy commissioner has directed the officials concerned to ensure that all crushing and mining working areas in the district remain completely closed during this period. He said that during this period, projects related to national importance and health services have been kept out of these restrictions.
