Team India captain Rohit Sharma has become a father for the second time. The Indian captain’s wife, Ritika Sajdeh, gave birth to a son on Friday, November 15. With this, Rohit’s family has increased from 3 to 4 members. The news of the birth of a son has filled Rohit’s family and his fans with happiness. While this news has made all Indian cricket fans happy, the question everyone is now asking is whether Rohit will be available to play in the Perth Test. Currently, this does not seem to be happening but former Team India captain Sourav Ganguly wants Rohit to play the Perth Test and while expressing his desire, he has made a surprising statement.
Rohit will not play the Perth Test
The Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia begins on November 22 and the first match will be played in Perth. However, for this, captain Rohit did not leave for Australia with the Indian team. Rohit had already told the BCCI that due to the birth of the child he may not appear for the first Test. The board of directors had also given him permission to do so. It was then believed that Rohit’s wife would give birth to a boy very close to the Perth Test, which begins on November 22.
However, Rohit’s son was born on November 15, after which hopes were raised that perhaps Rohit would play the Perth Test, but that is not the case. In a report citing BCCI sources, the Indian captain is said to have told the board. It is said that after the birth of his son, he wants to spend some time only with his family. Respecting this decision, the board also exempted Rohit from the first Test. Rohit can now return from the second Test match, which will begin on December 6 in Adelaide.
‘If I were in Rohit’s place…’
Now, former Team India captain and former BCCI President Sourav Ganguly has given his reaction on this matter and what he said is a bit shocking. In an interview with RevSportz, Ganguly said that the Indian team needs Rohit’s leadership because he is an excellent captain. Ganguly further said that now the son has been born and there is still a week left for the Perth Test, so now Rohit can go to Perth. Ganguly did not stop here and said, “There is still a week left for the Test match and if I was in Rohit’s place, I would have gone to Perth to play the Test because it is a big Test series and he will not tour Australia. again after this.”
Ganguly is not the first former player to make such a statement. Earlier, former captain Sunil Gavaskar had also said something similar. Gavaskar had said in an interview that after team India’s 0-3 loss against New Zealand, it was necessary for the captain to be there from the start of the next series. He even said that if Rohit doesn’t play the first Test and gets in the way, then some other player should be named captain in his place for the entire series.
