Once again a tense situation has arisen in Manipur. After the abduction of 6 people from the relief camp following gunfire between militants and security forces in Borobekra, women from Lamlai and Chalau villages in Imphal East took to the streets and started protesting. In view of the tension, the Manipur government has suspended Internet in six districts. Amid the kidnapping incident, three bodies were recovered near the confluence of Jiri River and Barak River on the Manipur-Assam border.
Authorities suspect that the three bodies recovered are those of the six people missing in Jiribam district. However, the police are busy identifying the bodies and finding out whether the recovered bodies are those of the missing persons or those of someone else. Imphal Valley-based civil society organizations have alleged that militants had abducted six people, whose bodies have now been recovered, while retreating after security forces foiled their attack on Borobekra police station. .
The protests took place in Imphal and Jiribam on Thursday.
On Thursday, people protested by lighting candles in Imphal and Jiribam demanding immediate release of the missing. The protesters also criticized local politicians, including the Jiribam MLA, accusing them of not having done anything sooner to search for the missing people.
Internet suspended to control antisocial elements
Meanwhile, as news of the recovery of three bodies spread across the Imphal Valley, tension rose in all five districts and state authorities declared a holiday in schools and colleges on Saturday. Now the state government has suspended Internet in six districts. The government has said that to maintain peace and control some anti-social elements, Internet is suspended in 6 districts.

On the other hand, regarding the situation in Manipur, the Union Home Ministry on Saturday said that all security forces in the state have been instructed to take necessary steps to restore peace. The statement also notes that the security scenario remains critical in recent days. During the conflict, armed miscreants from both communities have resorted to violence, resulting in loss of lives and disruption of law and order.
