The post further said, “He thanked all party leaders and workers for expressing confidence in his leadership and providing him unconditional support and cooperation throughout his tenure.”

Akali Dal Working Committee president Balwinder Singh Bhundar called an emergency meeting of the Working Committee at the party headquarters in Chandigarh at 12 noon on Monday to decide the future strategy. Elections for president, office-bearers and working committee of Akali Dal will be held on December 14. This will also elect the new president of Shiromani Akali Dal.

We reported that Badal’s resignation comes at a time when he had requested the Akal Takht Jathedar to pronounce his sentence on charges of religious misconduct, stating that it has been two months since he was declared ‘tankhaiya’ (guilty of religious misconduct ). It’s been a long time.

On August 30, Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Raghbir Singh declared Badal a ‘tankhaiya’ for the mistakes committed by the Akali Dal and its government between 2007 and 2017. The Jathedar is yet to announce the ‘salary’ (religious punishment) for Badal.

After Badal did not get any temporary relief from the Akal Takht, on October 24, the Akali Dal announced that it would not contest the by-elections.

On July 1, Akali Dal rebel leaders, including former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) chief Bibi Jagir Kaur, appeared before the Akal Takht and apologized for the mistakes committed by the party government between 2007 and 2017.
