Ten children died in fire at Jhansi Medical College
The entire nation was shocked by the fire incident at Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College in Jhansi, Uttar Pradesh on Friday. Ten newborns died in the fire and 16 children are still fighting for their lives in the emergency room. This fire brought back memories of the horrible scene in Delhi and Gorakhpur, in which dozens of innocent people were burnt to death. Even today, family members shudder when they remember that accident.
On May 25, 2024, a massive fire broke out at ‘Baby Care New Born Hospital’ in Vivek Vihar area of Delhi. In this accident, seven newborn children died and five children were burned. Remembering this accident, Seema from Delhi breaks down in tears. She says she had given birth to twins in the hospital, but due to the hospital’s negligence, both children were burned alive and died.
Seema’s two children died in the accident.
Seema says there was no single person responsible for this accident. It was the fault of the entire administration. Something similar could have happened in Jhansi too. The Delhi Police arrested the owner of the hospital in this case, who is currently in jail. An investigation was opened into this accident. The officers’ investigation revealed that the hospital was being run illegally by increasing the number of beds. There was no emergency exit in the hospital. The fire extinguishers used to put out the fire also did not work. Something similar happened at the Jhansi hospital. In this case neither the fire button nor the fire extinguisher were working at the time of the accident.
Madhuraj’s son was also admitted to this Delhi hospital. He says it was the grace of God that his son survived this accident. Madhuraj says strict action should be taken against hospitals operating illegally.
That ‘oxygen scandal’ at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur
Seven years ago, more than 50 children died due to alleged lack of oxygen at BRD Medical College, Gorakhpur. This incident occurred in August 2017. It was alleged that the company supplying oxygen had stopped the supply as the hospital management had not paid Rs 69 lakh. However, the government clearly denied this. The children were said to have died from encephalitis.
