Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Nigeria on Sunday during his three-nation visit. This is the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the West African nation in 17 years. Prime Minister Modi, invited by Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, received a warm welcome at the Abuja airport. The visit symbolizes growing ties between India and Nigeria, Africa’s most populous country. Upon arrival at Abuja airport, Prime Minister Modi was received by Nigerian President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory of Nigeria, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, handed over the symbolic “Key to the City” of Abuja to the Indian Prime Minister as a gesture of trust and goodwill.

Welcome people of the Indian community

Meanwhile, members of the Indian community in Nigeria also arrived at the airport to extend a warm welcome to Prime Minister Modi. They waved Indian flags and cheered as soon as Prime Minister Modi arrived. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of the reception, saying it “reflects the trust and respect extended to the Prime Minister by the people of Nigeria.” The Ministry of External Affairs also shared images from the event, emphasizing the importance of Prime Minister Modi’s historic visit to the West African region.

In a post on social media platform X, Prime Minister Modi shared images of his welcome by the Indian diaspora in Nigeria. Prime Minister Modi said it was “moving”. Prime Minister Modi said: “It is heartening to see the Indian community in Nigeria receiving such a warm and vibrant welcome!”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is touring three countries: Nigeria, Brazil and Guyana from November 17 to 21. Prime Minister Modi issued a statement marking his first stop in Nigeria following the invitation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with the aim of strengthening strategic ties between the two countries.
