(Aaj Samaj) Chandigarh: Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini, while congratulating and wishing best wishes to all media brothers on National Press Day, announced to provide cashless medical services to journalists in the ranks of the media. employees. Further, on the society’s demand for housing for journalists, the Chief Minister assured that this matter is being looked into by the government and it is seriously looking into it. The Chief Minister said while praising journalists for the service they render to the nation, the society and the people, he said the media is playing an active role in nation building. The role of journalists is very important in protecting democratic values.

He said that in our democratic system, journalism is considered the fourth pillar of democracy and is also known and recognized as a vigilant watchdog of the society. Newspapers and magazines serve as a strong link between the government and the public. Journalists play an important role in bringing all the progressive and welfare schemes of the government to the public and making the government aware of the opinions of the public. Referring to the honor and respect extended to journalists by the Haryana Government, Shri Naib Singh Saini said that the present State Government is always ready to look after their welfare. The Chief Minister said that in today’s era of social media his responsibilities have increased further. Expressing hope, he said that journalists will continue with the same enthusiasm the work of raising awareness in the country, the nation and the people. He also expressed hope that the media would continue to serve the nation by maintaining its reputation as the fourth pillar of democracy.

A monthly pension of Rs 15,000 is granted to journalists above 60 years of age.

He said former Chief Minister Manohar Lal took the demand for pensions of journalists to a new level. Currently, journalists over 60 years of age receive a monthly pension of Rs 15,000. Furthermore, the state government has approved two important amendments in the pension scheme according to which the pension service will continue even if a criminal case is registered against the journalist. In addition, now more than one member of the family will also receive the pension benefit. Apart from this, accredited journalists also get the chance to travel up to 4,000 kilometers per year for free on Haryana Roadways buses, including Volvo.
