The Dhanteras festival is celebrated two days before Diwali. This holiday is considered a symbol of happiness, prosperity and healthy living. According to the Hindu calendar, the festival of Dhanteras is celebrated on the Trayodashi date of the Kartik month. This year the festival of Dhanteras will be celebrated on October 29, 2024. Dhanteras which is also known as ‘Dhan Trayodashi’.
The name Dhanteras is derived from ‘Dhan’ and ‘Teras’, in which Dhan means wealth and prosperity and Teras means the 13th day of the Hindu calendar. On this day Lord Dhanvantari is worshiped. Furthermore, this day is also considered important for the worship of Kubera and Lakshmi Mata.
Dhanteras puja time will last 1 hour and 42 minutes.
According to astrologer Dr Shripati Tripathi, the Triyodashi date of Dhanteras will begin on October 29 at 10:31 am and end on October 30 at 1:15 pm On this day, Pradosh Kaal will last from 17:38 to 20: 13 hours. For Dhanteras, the twilight period on October 29 will be from 6:31 pm to 8:31 pm. That means there will be one hour and 42 minutes for Dhanteras worship.
Tripushkar Yoga is formed on the day of Dhanteras. In which purchases are considered auspicious. The first shopping time will be from 6:31 am to 10:31 am on October 29. The second Muhurta will be from 11:42 p.m. to 12:27 p.m.
Special importance has been given to purchasing gold, silver, utensils, jewelery or other valuables on the day of Dhanteras, just before Diwali. It is believed that anything purchased on this day brings prosperity and wealth to the house. Some people also buy new vehicles, property or other important things on this day. Apart from this, nowadays it is considered auspicious to buy new electronics and appliances on Dhanteras.
Do’s and Don’ts on Dhanteras
Purchases of gold, silver or utensils must be made on Dhanteras. Along with this, Lord Dhanvantari and Mother Lakshmi should be worshiped. The house must be clean and decorated. On the day of Dhanteras, one should not take or give loans to anyone. One should not worship in impure places on this day. In addition to this, one should stay away from anger and negativity.
