Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday completed his first visit to Nigeria. After concluding his visit to Nigeria, he left for Brazil to attend the G-20 summit. Prime Minister Modi held bilateral talks with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his visit. In addition to this, Prime Minister Modi spoke to the Indian community and addressed them. Prime Minister Modi was warmly received on this occasion. PM Modi invited NRIs to visit Prayagraj Mahakumbh 2025 and Kashi.
Let us tell you that this was the first visit of an Indian Prime Minister to a West African country after a gap of 17 years. Prime Minister Modi arrived in the Nigerian capital on Sunday morning on his visit.

PM Modi receives GCON award
During his visit to Nigeria, Prime Minister Modi received Nigeria’s national award, the Grand Commander of the Order of the Niger (GCON). Prime Minister Modi is the second foreign dignitary to receive this award. Previously, Queen Elizabeth of Great Britain was honored with this award in the year 1969. Furthermore, this was the 17th award given to Prime Minister Modi by any other country.
Prime Minister Modi emphasized India’s relations with Nigeria during bilateral talks with President Tinubu. He said India always gives priority to strategic partnership and is working to promote relations in many areas including energy, defense and trade.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Modi also thanked the Indian expatriate community living there. He described the overseas Indians living there as an important pillar of India-Nigeria relations. Thanking President Tinubu for ensuring their well-being, Prime Minister Modi said India is sending 20 tonnes of relief material for Nigerians affected by last month’s floods.
