The NPP has seven MLAs in the 60-member Manipur Assembly. However, the withdrawal of support from the NPP will not make any difference to the Biren government as the total number of NDA MLAs is 53. Of these, the number of BJP MLAs is 37, while the Naga People’s Front (NPF ) has the support of five MLAs, one from the JDU and three independent MLAs. On the other hand, among the opposition parties, the Congress has five MLAs and the KPA has two MLAs. Earlier, the Kuki People’s Party (KPA) had withdrawn its support to the NDA state government in view of caste violence.

More than 220 people from the Kuki and Meitei communities and security personnel have been killed in the ongoing violence in the state. Thousands of people have been left homeless.
