Generally you must have heard of athletes using drugs to enhance their performance in big events like the Olympic Games. But now a similar shocking incident has also come to light in cricket. A New Zealand cricketer entered the field under the influence of cocaine before the match and made his team win the match by bowling tremendously and batting fast. However, when he was tested after the match, he tested positive and was also suspended for a month.

he acted brilliantly after being drunk

New Zealand fast bowling all-rounder Doug Bracewell played a domestic T20 match in January this year. The Sports Integrity Commission has alleged that Bracewell, 34, who plays for Central Districts, entered the game against Wellington under the influence of cocaine. He had a tremendous performance in the match after being drunk. The Wellington team won the toss and decided to bat first. While bowling against him, Bracewell took 2 wickets for just 21 runs in 4 overs.

Wellington, who batted first, had set a target of 148 runs, while Bracewell scored an unbeaten 30 runs in just 11 balls. He hit 4 sixes in this short innings. Apart from this, he also made two catches in the game. Due to this explosive performance, the Central Districts team easily won the match by 6 wickets with 19 balls remaining. After this, Bracewell was named player of the match.

When he was tested after the match, he tested positive, after which he was suspended as per the rules. His team also admitted that Bracewell had used cocaine. However, he said that the team and the game had nothing to do with it. He had already arrived drunk without any knowledge. However, Bracewell later participated in a treatment program, after which his sentence was reduced to one month.

Bracewell received a one-month sentence for drug abuse backdated to April 2024. He played his last home game in March 2024. The punishment was given retroactively, so it was ruled that his suspension has ended and he can re-engage in cricket.
