Emojis and stars have replaced marks or grades on the progress cards of students from kindergarten to Class 2 in many CBSE schools in Kochi. Many schools in Kochi have started implementing this system with their students this academic year. The new program focuses on evaluating children based on their activities, which is different from written exams. Instead of rewarding by giving marks and grades in the traditional way, this new evaluation method has been introduced.

‘…so that feedback can be motivating for students’

“Imagine how much excitement there would be if they were replaced by emojis like applause, a star or even a trophy. These visual cues can have a profound impact,” said a teacher from a CBSE school in Kochi, “which can do.” most memorable and motivating comments for students.”

“Early intervention can help students develop social skills from an early age, while reducing performance and grade pressure, and this is a key feature of the new system,” he said.

‘This will increase students’ skills’

CBSE Management Association president TP Ibrahim Khan also said, “This will enhance the skills of the students.” He said the new system aims to encourage the development of skills such as communication, active learning and general health and wellbeing. “This is part of the New Education Policy (NEP),” Khan said. He said the policy covers the kindergarten and two kindergartens, Class 1 and Class 2, at the foundation stage. Therefore, a pattern has been established for these classes.

According to Khan, students will feel proud to wear a star on their school uniform, although CBSE has not given instructions to implement this system in schools. School officials said to ensure a smooth transition, schools held meetings for teachers and developed an integrated assessment. (With PTI input)
