Rio de Janeiro, Monday, November 18, 2024: Vatican Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin is in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to attend the G20 Leaders Summit on November 18-19. The visit responds to an invitation extended by the President of Brazil to Pope Francis. This was announced by the Secretary of State in a publication on X through its official account @TerzaLoggia, highlighting the main themes of the summit: the fight against hunger and poverty, the reform of global governance institutions, sustainable development and the energy transition.
G-20 Summit
The G-20 summit will mainly discuss economic and cooperation policies, as well as the ongoing wars in Ukraine, Russia and the Middle East.
The G-20 includes members of the G-7 and several emerging economies. At the conclusion of the summit, the group is expected to adopt a joint declaration.
On Sunday, November 17, world leaders arrived at the summit site and were received by Brazilian President Luiz InĂ¡cio Lula da Silva. President Lula also plans to hold bilateral meetings with many of the countries present.
In addition to the main members of the G-20, the Brazilian government has announced that 56 other delegations will participate in the days of the summit.
