The Pakistan Cricket Board had to abruptly stop the ongoing women’s national ODI tournament in Karachi after a fire at the team hotel led to five players narrowly escaping their lives. After the fire there was an uproar in Pakistan. The PCB had reserved an entire court for the five participating teams and their leaders. Most of the players were outside the hotel at the time of the fire. Thanks to this, a serious accident was avoided. But this has raised big questions about Pakistan’s system.
No players were injured
A PCB source said that when the fire broke out, all cricketers and officials, except five players, were at the National Stadium for a match or net session. This has caused damage to the property of players and referees. No players were injured and the PCB immediately evacuated the five players who were in the hotel at the time of the incident and transferred them safely to the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre.
The final will be played between the first two teams in the points table.
The decision to shorten the tournament was made with the health and safety of the players as a top priority. Apart from this, PCB does not get even 100 rooms in any hotel, which meet the required facilities. Now, to decide the winner of the National Women’s ODI Tournament, the PCB press release said that Invincibles and Stars are the top 2 teams in the points table. She will play the final match. The date and location of the final will be announced in due course.
Big questions about the Champions Trophy
Pakistan has to host the Champions Trophy 2025 but the issue got stalled after Team India refused to go there. The Pakistan Cricket Board was complaining about the security and excellent arrangements in place. But after the fire in the team hotel, all their secrets have been revealed. The PCB’s ability to organize any tournament is now being questioned.
