The first Border-Gavaskar Trophy match between India and Australia will be played on November 22. Indian team’s young batsman Shubhman Gill and regular captain Rohit Sharma will not be able to play in the first match. Gill is injured and Rohit is yet to leave for Australia after the birth of his second child. Due to the absence of these two, a huge crisis has arisen in front of the Indian team. India does not have any specialized opener to open in the first Test match.
Abhimanyu Easwaran is an opening candidate
Team India has KL Rahul and Abhimanyu Easwaran to open in the first Test match against Australia. Easwaran may have scored mountains of runs in domestic cricket but he is yet to debut for the Indian team and his debut directly against the Australian fast bowler may be less beneficial for the Indian team. The 29-year-old has scored 7674 runs in 101 first-class matches, including 27 centuries. Apart from this, he has 3847 runs to his name in 88 List A matches.
Rahul’s elbow was injured
On the other hand, KL Rahul last opened for the Indian team in the Test in the year 2023. Rahul had injured his elbow in the Instra Squad. Right now he is not seen in his old rhythm, for which he is known. So far, he has scored 2981 runs in 53 Test matches for Team India, which includes 8 centuries and 15 half-centuries. There is a chance that Easwaran gets a chance to open and Rahul makes it to number one.
