Delhi: Shahdara Cyber Police Station arrested a Chinese national, Fang Chenjin, in a major cyber fraud case involving fraud of over Rs. 43.5 lakhs. This fraud was committed by targeting individuals through online stock trading scams organized through WhatsApp groups. The police were shocked when they learned that the arrested defendant, Feng Chenjin, was also previously involved in two similar fraud cases. As the investigation progresses, this fraud has crossed Rs 100 million.

What’s the whole deal?

Police have said that on July 24, a person named Suresh Kolichiyil filed a complaint on the cybercrime portal. He had said he was tricked into investing money by luring him into a fraudulent stock market training session. The fraudsters lost Rs 43.5 lakh in multiple transactions. Transfers were made to many bank accounts. Subsequently, following a technical analysis of the case and a police raid, the accused Chinese national Fang Chenjin has been detained.

This is how the accused was captured

A special team was formed to investigate this fraud incident. During the investigation, data was extracted from those bank accounts to which the fraudulent amount was transferred. Along with this, the call details of the suspected mobile number were also analyzed. A thorough investigation was carried out into the bank accounts and mobile numbers linked to all the suspects. The team’s technical analysis and honest efforts revealed the fraud nexus. Police traced the money to a bank account in the name of Maha Lakshmi Traders located in Mundka. This account was found to be linked to a fraudulent transaction involving a transfer of Rs. Further investigation led the team to a registered mobile phone, which led the team to Fang Chenjin.

Fraud of more than 100 million rupees

Upon further investigation, the police found that Chinese national Fang Chenjin was also linked to two major fraud cases related to cybercrimes and money laundering in Andhra Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh. The police have discovered that 17 criminal complaints have also been registered on the cybercrime portal, all of them linked to the same Fincare bank account. According to the police, a total fraud of more than Rs 100 million has been committed. More research is being done.
