Pakistan Cricket Team: Jason Gillespie had turned down the offer to become Pakistan’s all-format selector. Following this, the Pakistan Cricket Board handed over the responsibility of interim coach for limited overs to National Selector Aaqib Javed. Now PCB has appointed Shahid Aslam as batting coach of the national team after the tour of Australia. Aslam previously worked with the Pakistan team for many years as an assistant coach, fielding coach and assistant manager. He has been working as a coach at the Lahore High Performance Center for two years.
I got the post on the recommendation of Aaqib Javed.
Before Shahid Aslam, former Test captain Mohammad Yousuf worked as the batting coach of the national team but was later appointed as the national selector. However, Yusuf later left the position of selector and batting coach and started working at the High Performance Centre. Yusuf had also recently resigned from his position at the High Performance Centre, but the PCB rejected his resignation. Now, on the recommendation of Aaqib Javed, the interim coach of the limited overs team, Aslam has been appointed batting coach.
He did not play a single international match for Pakistan.
Shahid Aslam, 55, has not played a single international match for the Pakistan team. He has taken 34 wickets in 17 first-class matches in domestic cricket for Pakistan. He has taken 12 wickets in 16 List A matches. Apart from this, he has also scored a total of 367 runs, including three half-centuries in his first-class career.
The Pakistani team is yet to play a series of three ODIs and three T20 matches against Zimbabwe. The captain of the ODI series team is Mohammad Rizwan. The captaincy of the T20 series team has been handed over to Salman Ali Aga. Pakistan recently won the ODI series against Australia and had to face defeat in the T20 series.
