Now everyone in rural areas of Himachal Pradesh will not have access to free water. According to the new decision of the Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu state government, domestic consumers with annual income above Rs 50,000 will have to pay Rs 100 per month. In addition, commercial establishments will also have to pay per kiloliter.

The state cabinet took this decision on Thursday to increase revenue and reduce concessions. Along with this, it was also decided to issue invoices at commercial rates for supplying water to commercial establishments such as hotels and homestays.

Chief Minister Sukhwinder Sukhu said: “Domestic consumers with an annual income of more than Rs 50,000 will have to pay Rs 100 per month as water bill, while commercial establishments like hotels will be charged per kiloliter and This amount will be transferred to Rs.

They will receive free water

However, free water services will continue to be provided to certain disadvantaged sections including widows, destitute, single women, disabled people and other weaker sections. In recent years, there has been a significant increase in the number of hotels and “homestays” in rural areas receiving free water services, while hotels in urban areas receive water and electricity at commercial rates.

“The Manpower Department, which manages water supply schemes in the state, is facing a revenue loss of around Rs 800 crore due to free water supply,” an official said.

He said that the previous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government had decided to provide free water in rural areas in May 2022 ahead of the assembly elections and as a result, the Manpower Department had suffered huge losses.
