In the face of increasing pollution in Delhi, the Environment Minister of the national capital, Gopal Rai, has taken a big step. He has once again written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to consider addressing the growing pollution crisis in Delhi. In his letter he asked for the Prime Minister’s intervention to create artificial rainfall. Accusing the Union Minister in this regard, he also said, “I sent letters in this matter on August 30, October 10 and October 23, demanding immediate action on the serious pollution situation, but the Environment Minister Union Environment has not yet taken any action. .” He hasn’t responded. On the other hand, the situation of the population is miserable due to the increase in pollution.
In his letter, Gopal Rai has written that “OJ dated 30/8/2024, 10/10/2024 and 23/10/2024 regarding air quality of Delhi during winter months. The letter aims to recall concerns that arise when smog and environmental degradation lead to dangerous levels of air pollution and to consider cloud seeding as an emergency measure. ,
He further wrote that, “Till date, AQI in Delhi has already crossed the level of 450 and GRAP-IV has been implemented and all measures under GRAP-IV are being strictly taken in Delhi. “The Delhi government has already implemented the Winter Action Plan from September 25, 2024 to address air pollution and is making continuous efforts to explore alternative immediate relief solutions to improve air quality.”
Giving information on cloud seeding, he wrote, “This is a process that the Delhi government, with the help of IIT Kanpur, started last year as an emergency measure to generate artificial rain at such critical times and reduce pollution of the air.” “He considered cloud seeding a cause for concern and found that it requires prior approval from multiple agencies to implement.”
He also requested the Central Government: “Considering that the air quality in Delhi has reached severe+ category, I think it is necessary to immediately consider the use of this method in the current situation. In view of the above, I once again request you to immediately call an emergency meeting with the Government of Delhi, IIT Kanpur and all other departments/agencies of the central government such as DGCA, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, etc., involved in cloud seeding in Delhi “Includes issuance of NOC/authorization to operate as an “agency measure”.
