A special court has sentenced a retired government employee to three years in prison in a bribery case in Rajkot, Gujarat. This matter is from the year 2006. Bharat Gohil, executive engineer of West Gujarat Electricity Company, has been convicted and sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment. He had accepted a bribe to clear the contract bill for supply of 1,620 electric poles in Junagadh-Porbandar circle, regarding which a complaint was lodged with the Anti-Corruption Bureau.
At that time, the complainant had said that executive engineer Bharat Gohil had asked for a bribe of Rs 6,480 at the rate of Rs 4 per pillar. After this complaint, the Anti-Corruption Office caught him red-handed. Since then this case has been developed in a special court. The accused had stated in court that the bribe money was not recovered from him, but was found in a trash can in the office. At that time he had gone to meet with one of his superior officers.
After this, the court said that if this is true, why did the accused not file any complaint against the complainant for the false case? Also, why didn’t he call his superior officer to testify? The government side argued that the accused was lying. The Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested him red-handed while taking money. It is absolutely impossible for someone to come to your office and deposit money in your absence.
Let us tell you that in September this year, the court found a police officer guilty and sentenced him to 5 years in prison in a 2014 bribery case in Morbi district of Gujarat. An officer at Malia police station in Morbi district was accused of demanding bribes for passport verification. He was caught red-handed by the Anti-Corruption Bureau. In the same case, the local court had sentenced the accused to 5 years of rigorous imprisonment and fine.
Pooja, sister-in-law of the plaintiff Manoj, had to go to Nairobi to be with her husband. For this there is a paper process of creating a passport. During this process a police verification is also carried out, so on March 17, 2014, Pooja received a call from the Maliya police station. Pooja reached the police station. Constable Amartbhai had demanded payment of Rs 500 after receiving the signature. Pooja asked that the entire process and fees have already been paid, so why pay the money now?
After this, police officer Amart Makwana called on the second day and again said that if you want a passport, you will have to pay 500 rupees. Pooja did not want to pay the bribe amount. Therefore, Manoj complained to the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the ACB team laid a trap and arrested the police officer who took the bribe. This case was processed in the court of Special Judge (ACB) and Principal Sessions Judge. During this period, 7 oral and 35 documentary evidence were presented to the court.
