Indian stock markets will remain closed on Wednesday, November 20 due to voting in the assembly elections in Maharashtra. The Election Commission of India (EC) announced the dates of the Maharashtra Assembly elections on October 15, 2024. As per the Election Commission announcement, elections for 288 seats in Maharashtra will be held in a single phase , in which 4,136 candidates will compete.

The counting of votes will take place on November 23, 2024. There will be no trading or settlement in the equities, derivatives and securities lending and borrowing (SLB) segments on the National Stock Exchange (NSE) and the BSE on Wednesday. The next stock market holiday will be Christmas on December 25, 2024, which will be the last stock market holiday in India this year.

The national stock market is open from Monday to Friday. Trading in the stock market takes place from 9:15 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. On regular trading days there is also a pre-opening session from 9:00 a.m. to 9:15 a.m. The stock market is closed on Saturdays and Sundays.

Will the commodities market remain open?

Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will remain closed for trading from 9 am to 5 pm during the morning session. The afternoon trading session will be open from 5:00 p.m. to 11:55 p.m. (until 9:00 p.m. for selected agricultural products). On the other hand, the National Commodities and Derivatives Exchange (NCDEX), India’s largest agricultural commodities exchange, will remain closed. Contracts expiring on Wednesday have been extended until the last day of trading, Tuesday, November 19, 2024.

On Tuesday, the stock market closed with gains after 7 consecutive days of declines. The main index of the Bombay Stock Exchange, Sensex, closed at 77,578.38 points with a gain of 239.37 points. What is special is that during the trading session the BSE saw an increase of more than 1,000 points and even reached the day’s high of 78,451.65 points. Before that, Sensex had seen a drop of more than 3 thousand points in 7 business days.

On the other hand, the main index of the National Stock Exchange, Nifty, also closed at 23,518.50 points with a rise of about 65 points. While during the trading session, Nifty saw a rise of over 300 points and reached the day’s high of 23,780.65 points. However, before that there had been a drop of more than 1,000 points in 7 business days.
