Assembly Elections: Voting begins for Maharashtra Assembly elections

Maharashtra and Jharkhand Elections 2024, (Aaj Samaj), Mumbai/Ranchi: Voting began at 7 am for all 288 seats in the Maharashtra assembly. Voting will take place until 6:00 p.m. The second and final phase of voting has also begun in Jharkhand. The results of both states will be known on November 23.

Maharashtra: main competition between them

The main contest in Maharashtra is between the Mahayuti alliance and Mahavikas Aghadi. The grand alliance includes Shiv Sena of the Shinde faction, the BJP and Ajit Pawar’s NCP and they face the challenge of saving the government. The Mahavikas Aghadi alliance includes the Congress, Uddhav Thackeray faction’s Shiv Sena and Sharad Pawar’s NCP. Apart from this, many other smaller coalition partner parties are also in the fray.

BJP is in the field with a maximum of 148 seats.

In Maharashtra, in alliance with Mahayuti, the BJP is contesting a maximum of 148 seats out of 288. At the same time, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena party won 80 seats. The NCP from the Ajit Pawar faction is contesting 52 seats. Other seats have been awarded to alliance allies. This time, a total of 4,136 candidates are at stake in the state elections.

Jharkhand: Voting for 38 seats today

There are a total of 81 assembly seats in Jharkhand. In the first phase, 43 seats were voted on November 13 and the remaining 38 seats will be voted on today. Voting has begun at 14,218 polling stations. Voting will continue at 5 p.m. Voting will end at 4:00 p.m. at 31 polling stations. There are a total of 1.23 million voters in the state, including 60.79 lakh women. There are a total of 528 candidates. Of them, 55 are women and 472 are men. There’s a transgender there.

The fate of many veterans, including CM Hemant Soren, is at stake.

In the second phase in Jharkhand, the fate of many stalwarts, including the state’s Chief Minister and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) candidate Hemant Soren and his wife Kalpana Soren, is at stake. In this phase, 528 candidates are in the fray, including opposition leader and BJP candidate Amar Kumar Bauri. On one hand, the opposition alliance with India is at play in the state and on the other, the BJP-led NDA is in the fray. There is tough competition between the two.
