Government sets target of 35 lakh hectares for wheat sowing

Breaking News from Punjab (Aaj Samaj), Chandigarh: Punjab Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that of the wheat sowing target of 35 lakh hectares in the state during the current season, so far it has been sown in an area of ​​27 lakh hectares, thus has achieved the 77 percent goal. This shows that the sowing process is going on smoothly in the state and sowing is expected to be completed in the rest of the area also by the end of this month.

Almost 99 percent of DAP available in the state

Throwing light on the current fertilizer situation, Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that currently a total of 4.20 lakh metric tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) and 0.55 lakh metric tonnes of other fertilizers are available in the state. phosphates for the Rabi 2024-25 season. A total of 4.82 lakh metric tonnes of DAP is required for this season. Consequently, around 99 percent of DAP and other phosphate fertilizers are available in the state, ensuring that our farmers have the necessary resources for increased crop production. Punjab expects 10,000 more tonnes of DAP to arrive in the next 3-4 days, while 44,000 tonnes of DAP are already in transit.

Increase in average rice yield

According to the Crop Cutting Experiment (CCE) conducted by the Punjab Agriculture Department, an increase of 1.4 quintals in the average rice yield per hectare has been recorded this year. For the 2024 Kharif season, a total of 2,174 CCTs are being carried out, of which 1,863 experiments resulted in a production of 6,878 kg per hectare, while in 2023 this figure was 6,740 kg. These figures include basmati and non-basmati rice varieties. Giving information in this regard, Agriculture Minister Gurmeet Singh Khudian said that 97 per cent of paddy harvesting in the state has been completed so far.
