Vendors are harassed for lack of vending area

Due to lack of sales area, vendors stand on the road

(Yamunanagar News) Sadhaura. Due to the lack of sales area in the municipal area, sellers face double harassment. Shopkeepers are extorting illegal money from vendors to set up vendors in front of their shops. At the same time, they are also facing losses as the municipality took measures to eliminate the encroachment and confiscate the products of their street vendors. The seriousness of the municipality in this regard is such that to date no meeting of the Street Vending Committee formed four years ago has been held.

The Street Vending Committee is responsible for deciding the locations of street vendors. It should be noted that in addition to the invasion, there are transportation problems due to the presence of street vendors in all parts of the town. Due to the lack of a sales area, street vendors have to stand in front of shops and pay daily rent to traders to sell their products. At the same time, due to the narrowness of the market and the street due to street vendors, people passing by have to face problems. The adoption of measures by the municipality to eliminate the encroachment has also become a cause of problems for street vendors. The municipal employees who come to eliminate the encroachments confiscate the street vendors’ goods and take them away. Street vendors Sukhbir, Ramesh, Rahmadin and Ashok said they are facing financial and mental problems due to daily measures taken by the municipality to eliminate encroachments. If sales areas are reserved for street vendors, they will have space to sell their products and will also save on the rent they pay to the traders. Markets and roads will also be free of encroachments.

A space for the weekly market should also be determined.

The Peetha Bazaar held every Saturday at the old vegetable market has also become a cause of trouble for traders and people passing by. Ramkumar, Sushil and Manoj said that most traders have put their store products far ahead. Under these circumstances, there is no room left for movement due to the creation of a secondary market. Due to the lack of cleanliness of the back market traders, there is a lot of dirt in the back market on Sundays. To solve this problem, steps should be taken to establish the secondary market somewhere open instead of the market. Municipal chairperson Shalini Sharma said a location has been selected for the vending area above the drain behind the electrical board. A budget will be made soon and a vending area will be set up there.
