JPC report on Waqf bill ready, opposition MPs create ruckus; He said tenure should be expanded.

Waqf Amendment Bill: The Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) held its last meeting on Thursday on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. JPC Chairman Jagdambika Pal stated that the JPC report on the Waqf Bill is ready. At the same time, opposition parliamentarians demanded that the JPC’s mandate be extended. Many opposition MPs spoke to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla over the phone on this issue.

After the parliamentary committee meeting ended, opposition deputies demanded an extension of the JPC’s mandate. Opposition MPs allege that the committee chairman does not listen to them and acts arbitrarily. At the same time, opposition MPs are likely to meet Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla soon to discuss the issue. Meanwhile, Jagdambika Pal says the commission will submit its report on time.

Opposition MPs to meet Om Birla on Monday

MPs from opposition parties included in the committee will meet the Lok Sabha Speaker to extend the mandate of the JPC formed on the Waqf Amendment Bill. All opposition party MPs included in the committee are said to meet the Lok Sabha Speaker on Monday at 10:30 am. At the same time, the winter session of Parliament begins on Monday. The Waqf (Amendment) Bill is believed to be introduced in the House in this session.

On the Waqf (Amendment) Bill, CPM president Jagdambika Pal said, ‘Our report is ready and we will discuss it clause by clause. Here the opposition was also saying the same thing (demanding the extension of the JPC’s mandate)… Any member or opposition is free to meet the Speaker. They are trying to expand the mandate of the JPC.

29 hours of questions and answers in 5 CPM meetings

In fact, the proposal to make 40 amendments to the Waqf Act was approved in the cabinet meeting. The CPM president says that five CPM meetings have been held so far. A total of more than 29 hours of questions and answers were held on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill. 25 meetings were also held with all stakeholders. A report has been prepared in this regard, which will be presented in the House with the cooperation of all.

On the opposition MPs’ demand to extend the tenure of the JPC, he said they are independent and can present their views before the Lok Sabha Speaker. JPC chairman says whatever decision Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla takes will be acceptable to us. The JPC has a deadline of November 29 to submit its report on the Waqf (Amendment) Bill.
