In fact, Gautam Adani is accused of bribing Indian government officials with money from American investors and this bribery also occurred for those projects, thanks to which an Adani Group company received 2 billion US dollars, i.e. , Indian rupees in 20 years. It is estimated that there will be a profit of approximately 16,881 million rupees. To obtain this benefit, a bribe of around Rs 2,200 crore was allegedly given to the governments of Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh between the years 2021 and 2022. This bribe money was related to a company that was listed on the American stock market, for which he was investigated in the United States and the New York District Court has now decided to charge him in this case.

This whole matter is related to some solar energy projects, between December 2019 and July 2020, a Government of India company issued letters of award, which is commonly called agreement or undertaking. The name of this Government of India company is Solar Energy Corporation of India Limited. Among the two companies for which these award letters were issued, one is from Gautam Adani, which is called Adani Green Energy Limited, and the other is from Mauritius, which is called Azure Power Global Limited. It is alleged that both the companies had an informal agreement with each other and in the years 2019 and 2020, the Government of India had given permission to these two companies to produce a total of 12 GW of solar energy.
Of them, 8 GW of solar power would be produced by Gautam Adani’s company and 4 GW of solar power would be produced by the Mauritius company. Gautam Adani himself described it then as the world’s largest solar energy deal. Gautam Adani’s company and the Mauritius company were very excited about this deal. But then this agreement became a challenge for everyone. The Government of India company talked to different state governments to purchase this electricity, but due to high electricity tariffs, no state was willing to enter into an agreement with these companies.
In the documents of the District Court of New York it is written that, thanks to bribes, Gautam Adani’s company, Adani Green and the Mauritius company obtained large solar energy projects in many states in a few months. The names of these states were Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, Jammu and Kashmir, Tamil Nadu and Chhattisgarh. It is alleged that bribes worth around Rs 2,200 crore were given to get solar power projects in these states. Of these, a bribe of Rs 638 million would be given to the Mauritius company and a bribe of approximately Rs 1,500 million would be given to Gautam Adani’s company. Apart from this, it is also alleged that the Andhra Pradesh government received the bulk of the bribe and this bribe was Rs 2.39 million. Between July 2021 and February 2022, states that signed solar energy projects with Gautam Adani and his associate company had opposition governments and non-BJP parties.

In our country, no private company can sell electricity directly to any state government. It is necessary that between these two there is a Government of India company, and in this case also the Government of India company was talking to different states to buy this solar energy. Apparently, when no deal was reached due to high electricity tariffs, Gautam Adani talked about bribing state governments and government officials in India, and the Mauritius company also supported him in this.
