Republican Matt Gaetz withdrew his nomination as Donald Trump’s attorney general. Matt Gaetz was in the headlines after sexual allegations were made against him. Gaetz resigned from the US House of Representatives last week. He denied the allegations in relation to the Ethics Committee’s investigation into allegations that he had sexual relations with the girl.
“There is no point in wasting time on unnecessarily protracted fights in Washington, which is why I am withdrawing from consideration to serve as attorney general,” Gaetz said in a social media post.
Gaetz, who was nominated last week, faced questions about his ability to serve as the nation’s top law enforcement official and his past conduct. The Justice Department investigated him for nearly three years for possible sex trafficking violations, an investigation that ended last year without charges.

Some Republican senators expressed doubts about his nomination. However, no one publicly said they would openly oppose him.
Republican Sen. Cynthia Lummis said Gaetz’s decision would allow Trump to nominate an attorney general “with fewer hurdles in the Senate.”
