thanks to president ali
Addressing the Indian community in Georgetown, Guyana, Prime Minister Modi said I thank President Ali for opening the doors of his home to me. Together with President Ali and his grandmother, we also planted a tree. This is part of our initiative: ‘Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam’. It was an emotional moment that I will always remember. I am deeply honored to receive Guyana’s highest national award, the Order of Excellence.
a way of life
Prime Minister Modi said the Indo-Guyanese community also has a unique food tradition, which has both Indian and Guyanese elements. I heard Dalpuri is popular here. The love of cricket also unites us. It is not just a game but a way of life, deeply rooted in our national identity.
The people of Guyana are great supporters of India
Prime Minister Modi said that the people of Guyana sympathize with India. You must be closely watching the progress happening in India. In just 10 years, India has gone from being the tenth largest country. The economy is the fifth largest and we will soon become the third largest economy. Our youth has made us the third largest startup ecosystem in the world. We have reached Mars and the Moon.
Celebrating the bond of two centuries
The President of Guyana, Mohammad Irfan Ali, said that it is a source of pride and joy for me to welcome all of you to this meeting today. This meeting celebrates a bond of almost two centuries. The Indian presence in Guyana is a notable chapter in the history of our country. It all began 186 years ago, when the first Indians arrived here as indentured immigrants in 1838. From agriculture to commerce, from education to culture, from sports to business, Indians have contributed to the shaping of Guyana. The vibrancy of Indian culture evident in our festivals, cuisine and traditions has become an integral part of our national identity.
