Sub-inspector of the Department of Agriculture is on the run in this case
Punjab Crime News (Aaj Samaj), Firozpur: The Vigilance Bureau has achieved great success in the anti-corruption drive in the state. Acting on a complaint, the Bureau arrested the SDO of the Canal Department on charges of accepting a bribe of Rs 15 lakh, while his associate sub-inspector of the Agriculture Department managed to abscond. According to information, the victim had complained about this to the Chief Minister’s Anti-Corruption Action Line. He said that during the investigation it came to light that the complainant Gurpreet Singh had filed his nomination papers for the post of Sarpanch in the recently held Panchayat elections.
These two officers threatened to cancel his appointment if he did not pay the bribe. Following this, SDO Gulab Singh, posted as Returning Officer at Ghalkhurd Block, took Rs 10 lakh from him on October 4 in the presence of Sub-Inspector Davinder Singh, Assistant Returning Officer. Apart from this, on October 5, Gulab Singh sent one of his people and took five lakh rupees more from the petrol pump near Baghi Road, Firozpur.
The complainant alleged that despite accepting bribes, his Sarpanchi papers were canceled on October 6. Later, the said sub-inspector Davinder Singh spoke to SDO Gulab Singh about returning the money. Davinder Singh recorded this from his mobile phone and sent it to the complainant. Gurpreet handed over this recording to the Vigilance Bureau as evidence.

The accusations prove true in the investigation
The officer said that in the recording it came to light that he accused Gulab Singh and Davinder Singh of having conspired to receive a bribe from the complainant. He said that on the basis of this investigation, a case was registered against accused Gulab Singh and Davinder Singh at Firozpur Vigilance Police Station. In this case, the accused SDO Gulab Singh has been arrested and the second accused will be arrested soon. This matter is being investigated.
