Residents of Ghungrali village in Ludhiana district today met Punjab Chief Minister Agwant Singh Mann and thanked him for taking the biogas plant issue into their confidence and finding a suitable solution to the problem. A delegation of villagers led by village resident Hardeep Singh and newly elected sarpanch Amritpal Singh met the Chief Minister at his Punjab Civil Secretariat office. During the debate, the Chief Minister stated that this biogas plant will be completely pollution-free.
He reiterated that the Punjab government is committed to curbing pollution in the state and no laxity or negligence will be tolerated. Agwant Singh Mann clarified that the plant will be completely pollution-free and no one will be allowed to violate the rules. The Chief Minister said that a monitoring committee of all stakeholders will remain active for regular monitoring of the project.
Agwant Singh Mann said that so far the state government has adopted the policy of not showing any concern about pollution caused by any person in Punjab. He said that no person will be allowed to violate the rules and exemplary action will be taken against those involved in this crime. The Chief Minister said the owners of the plant have signed a written agreement with the state government, assuring that their plant will follow all environmental norms.
He said the Punjab Pollution Control Board will strictly monitor the plant to ensure that there are no violations during its operation. Agwant Singh Mann clarified that any kind of violation of environmental norms is completely inappropriate and unacceptable and will not be tolerated at any cost. The Chief Minister said that the villagers, through their positive thinking, have set a new example of full cooperation in the functioning of the government.
• Agwant Singh Mann announced that possibilities of setting up a state-of-the-art sports nursery in the village will be explored to channelize the immense energy of the youth. Similarly, he also announced the creation of a hi-tech library in the village and said that all other reasonable demands of the villagers will be accepted.
