Chandigarh (Aaj Samaj)Project Jeevanjot is run by the Government of Punjab through the State Department of Social Security and Women and Child Development to eliminate social evil like child abuse. The objective of this initiative is to rescue, rehabilitate and rehabilitate child beggars and ensure that they are shown the way to a life free of exploitation. These words were spoken by Cabinet Minister Dr. Baljeet Kaur.
The Cabinet Minister said that under Project Jeevanjot, studies are being carried out in the state to rescue and rehabilitate beggar children. He said that this study is carried out the second week of each month. He also revealed that under this campaign a total of 187 children have been rescued in different districts since the month of July, of which 18 children are in children’s homes functioning in the state due to lack of any shelter set up.
The children of these homes receive education, food, health services, etc. The remaining children have been handed over to their parents through the Child Protection Committee. Of them, 15 children benefited from the sponsorship scheme, arrangements are being made for 80 children to be admitted to school and 3 children have been enrolled in Anganwadi. The Minister said that under the Juvenile Justice Care and Protection Act, 2015, the Punjab government has registered 7 government children’s homes and 39 non-government homes in the state, where orphans, destitute children are accommodated and protected.
The Cabinet Minister appealed to citizens that if they are aware of any problem related to children asking for money, they should send information in this regard to the District Child Protection Unit or the Child Welfare Committee of their district or the department .
