Kolkata: Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Subhendu Adhikari has launched a major attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He on Friday ridiculed Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s move to curb corruption, alleging that corruption is not possible without “direct or indirect” support from the Chief Minister.

Are government officials raising funds for TMC?

BJP leader Subhendu Adhikari also alleged that senior officials and bureaucrats of the Indian Police Service are involved in raising funds for the ruling Trinamool Congress through electoral bonds. A day earlier, Mamata Banerjee had announced the launch of a “complete reshuffle” in the CID, accusing a section of lower-level police officers of indulging in corruption. “If Mamata Banerjee has realized the need for reforms after 13 years in power, she should first return Rs 1,600 crore recovered from corrupt people and mafias through electoral bonds,” the official said.

‘Mamata is giving contradictory statements’

The BJP leader alleged, “The Chief Minister is making desperate attempts to make up for the loss, telling half-truths and making statements that contradict herself.” If she really wants to ensure transparency, as she claims, then she should admit that a section of IPS officials and bureaucrats have helped her raise funds for electoral bonds.

Welfare plans are a source of corruption

He alleged that the government’s welfare schemes were a source of corruption. “The prime minister tries to blame lower-ranking officials, but the truth is that the huge system of corruption is the result of her party’s policies and practices,” he said. (input language)
