Counting of votes in the by-elections to Budhni and Vijaypur assembly seats in Madhya Pradesh will take place on Saturday. There is a contest for these seats between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress. On Friday, an election official said all preparations had been made for the vote count. The counting of votes will begin at 8:00 a.m. The official said counting of votes for Vijaypur seat will be done at Government Polytechnic College in Sheopur district headquarters and the entire process will be completed in 21 “rounds”.

He said the counting of votes for the Budhni seat vacated by former Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be held at the Government Women’s Polytechnic College, Sehore district headquarters, and the counting will be completed in 13 “rounds.” Three-tier security arrangements have been adopted at the counting centres.

How many polls took place in Vijaypur and Budhni?

The by-elections for Vijaypur and Budhni seats on November 13 recorded 77.85% and 77.32% votes respectively. The by-election in Vijaypur was necessary because sitting MLA Ramniwas Rawat resigned and joined the ruling BJP. He was later made a minister in Mohan Yadav’s cabinet. Rawat has opposed the elections against Congress tribal leader Mukesh Malhotra.

Budhni’s seat fell vacant after Shivraj’s election to the Lok Sabha

The Budhni seat fell vacant after Chauhan, the sitting BJP MLA from Vidisha and former chief minister, was elected to the Lok Sabha in June. Later, Chouhan was inducted into the Union Cabinet and given the important charge of the Agriculture Department. Chouhan’s close aide Ramakant Bhargava has opposed former state minister and Congress candidate Rajkumar Patel in Budhni.
