Jharia mounting seat
In Jharkhand, a decision will be taken very soon on who the public will give a chance to enter the government over the next five years and who will work to raise their voice in the opposition. Voting was held in two phases in 81 seats of the state. In the first phase, on November 13, a total of 43 seats were voted, while in the second phase, on November 20, 38 seats were voted. In the second phase, all 6 seats of Dhanbad district were voted. One of these seats is Jharia.
Broadly speaking, the important contest in Jharia was between the Congress and the Bharatiya Janata Party. Here the Bharatiya Janata Party had fielded Ragini Singh for the MLA. While the Congress had chosen Purnima Neeraj Singh as its candidate. There was also a contest between these two candidates in the elections of 2019. Then Congress’s Purnima Neeraj Singh had defeated BJP’s Ragini Singh in the elections by a very narrow margin. This time all eyes are on the results.
Electoral history: 2000 until now
Since 2000, the Bharatiya Janata Party has largely been in the lead in the Jharia assembly seat. In the 2000 elections, Samata Party’s Bachchan Singh definitely won here. But in 2005 the situation changed significantly with the elections held after the formation of Jharkhand. The Bharatiya Janata Party took a strong lead. BJP’s Kunti Singh managed to win the elections in 2005 and 2009. While in 2014, Sanjeev Singh hoisted the victory flag here on the BJP ticket.
Yes, the political balance definitely changed completely in the 2019 elections and this stronghold of the BJP collapsed. In these elections, Purnima Neeraj Singh of the Congress got around 80 thousand votes. He was followed by Ragini Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Singh got around 68,000 votes and thus Purnima Neeraj Singh became MLA by a margin of around 12,000 votes. In that election, Jharkhand Vikas Morcha – Prajatantrik came in third position and AJSU in fourth position.
