Electoral history after 2000
Jharkhand Mukti Morcha has been in possession of the Dumri assembly seat in Giridih district for a long time. Last time, in 2000, Lal Chand Mahato of Janata Dal was elected MLA from here. Subsequently, in the assembly elections of 2005, 2009, 2014 and 2019, Jagarnath Mahato of Jharkhand Mukti Morcha won the legislative elections. However, Mahato could not complete his 2019 term. In such a situation, a by-election was held for this seat in 2023.
Baby Devi was here representing Jharkhand Mukti Morcha in the by-elections 2023. She was contesting against AJSU’s Yashoda Devi. Baby Devi got a total of 1 lakh votes while Yashoda Devi got around 83 thousand votes. Thus, Baby Devi won these by-elections by a margin of about 17,000 votes. NOTA came in the third position in this election, while AIMIM’s Abdul Mobin Rizvi came in the fourth position. In this election the candidates for 2023 faced each other.
