The Congress has registered victory in the by-elections held in the Nanded Lok Sabha seat. In the final stages of counting, Congress candidate Ravindra Chavan came back and defeated BJP candidate Santukrao Humbarde by a margin of 1,457 votes. The BJP candidate was leading the Congress candidate by 35,000 votes till 4 pm, but in the final rounds the tables turned and in a tough contest, Ravindra Chavan retained the Nanded Lok Sabha seat for the Congress. He got 586,788 votes, while BJP’s Pratya Hambarde got 585,331 votes.
Let us tell you that your father Vasantrao Chavan had won the 2024 Lok Sabha elections from Nanded seat on the Congress ticket. But due to his untimely death there was a need for by-elections. Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi came third. Its candidate, Avinash Vishwanath Bhosikar, got 80,179 votes. While addressing workers at the Delhi BJP headquarters after Mahayuti’s strong performance in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned the by-elections held in the Nanded Lok Sabha seat.
But he wrongly claimed that with the victory in Nanded, the BJP’s Lok Sabha seat count in Maharashtra had increased from 9 to 10. Soon after Prime Minister Modi’s speech, the final result of the Nanded by-election was reflected in the Election Commission website, in which Congress was declared victorious by 1,457 votes. Interestingly, Mahayuti won the Nanded Lok Sabha assembly seats – Nanded North and Nanded South. Shiv Sena of the Shinde faction won both assembly seats.
We told you that in the Lok Sabha elections, Mahayuti had suffered a setback in Maharashtra and Maha Vikas Aghadi had won 31 of 48 seats. Congress became the largest party by winning 13 seats. Shiv Sena’s UBT won 9 seats and Sharad Pawar’s NCP won 8 seats. Congress rebel Vishal Prakashbabu Patil had contested the Sangli seat as an independent candidate and won. He later gave his support to Congress. In the grand alliance, the BJP could win 9 seats, Shinde’s Shiv Sena 7 and Ajit Pawar’s NCP could win 1 seat.
