‘Make literature accessible to people in different languages’
President Draupadi Murmu further said in his speech that in our country pan-Indian consciousness is easily present in local literature written in different languages. This work is visible in current literature from the Ramayana and the Mahabharata to the freedom struggle. I really like this expression of Indian consciousness by Pandit Gopabandhu Das. In my opinion, every Indian stone is a yagya of worship like a Shilagram. Every place in India is as dear to me as Jagannathpuri Dham. I hope from Aaj Tak that today all of you make literature in different Indian languages available to people. Also introduce literature lovers to the moving works of the great Santhali poet Dr. Ramdas Tudu and poet Sadhu Ramchandra Murmu. The literature of other disadvantaged classes, which is called subaltern literature, is also presented. You bring out the hidden gems of literature.
He further said that the literary service work that literary magazines can do with great difficulty can be done on a large scale thanks to technology. By doing this, you will be doing a great service to Indian society and literature. A truly sensitive person towards family or society keeps all the needs of their children at the center. That’s why I want you to also try to promote children’s literature. Enriching children’s literature through original writing and translation will be helpful in enriching the country and society.
‘The best literature in the world knows no borders’
President Draupadi Murmu also mentioned the limitations of literature in her speech. She says that the best literature in the world does not recognize any kind of borders. He does not even accept the extent of illiteracy. In every house and village of Odisha, all the literate and illiterate people continue to quote Bhagwat’s lines. Less educated farmers and workers also understand the deep meanings of Saint Kabir’s verses. They also use them as idioms while talking to each other. The best literature is that which everyone understands; This is what scholars call the communicability of literature. Only critics cannot decide whether a work is literary or not. These decisions are made by ordinary literature lovers.
‘Participating in people’s pain and suffering is the first condition of literature’
President Draupadi Murmu said that Ramcharit Manas of Tulsidas was rejected by the then scholars for many reasons. The language of Ramcharit Manas was not Sanskrit but the language of the common people. This was also an important reason for the boycott of those epics by scholars. That epic is considered an invaluable jewel of the literary world. It has been seen that the works of writers who remain connected with the joy and pain of the people receive the affection of the readers. Literary workers who consider the experiences of society only as raw material are also rejected by society. The work of these literary workers remains limited to a small literary establishment, that is, to literary systems. Where there is intellectual pomp and prejudice there is no literature.
Going further, he said that I believe that being a participant in people’s pain and suffering is the first condition of literature. In other words, joining the flow of humanity is the test of literature. Literature is that which gives strength to humanity and improves society. Literature adapts the eternal values of humanity to changing circumstances. Literature gives new life to society. Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi’s thoughts were influenced by many saint poets and some literary works including the novel Saraswati Chandra. This influence of literature must be respected.
