Mumbai: The results of the Maharashtra Assembly elections have arrived. Mahayuti scored an excellent victory in the state, while Mahavikas Aghadi faced defeat. Mahavikas Aghadi’s performance has been quite disappointing and he has not been able to get even 50 seats out of 288. Even the magic of Sharad Pawar, who is called Chanakya in politics, has not worked in these elections and out of 86 candidates from his own party, only 10 have achieved victory. In such a situation, a discussion has started in Maharashtra politics whether Sharad Pawar’s magic has ended in the state. There was a time when he was famous in Maharashtra, but today only 10 candidates from his party have won the elections.
Sharad Pawar’s political graph is continuously declining
Sharad Pawar was once a great Congress leader. But the NCP was formed in protest against the appointment of Sonia Gandhi as Congress president and Sharad Pawar became its founder. Sharad broke away from Congress on June 10, 1999 and formed this party along with other leaders including PA Sangma and Tariq Anwar.
The NCP gained the status of a national party in the year 2000, but after 23 years, in the year 2022, Sharad Pawar was to see a day he may not have even imagined. His party broke up in 2022 due to the political ambitions of his nephew Ajit Pawar.
Ajit Pawar rebelled and when this matter reached the Supreme Court, following the directions of the court, the decision was in favor of Ajit Pawar. The Ajit Pawar faction was declared the real NCP and also got the party symbol.
After this, Sharad Pawar’s group was named Nationalist Congress Party (Sharadchandra Pawar). Sharad Pawar lost control over his own party and now his party has also performed poorly in the Maharashtra Assembly elections.
Heavy defeat also in the Maharashtra elections
Sharad Pawar’s party fielded 86 candidates in the Maharashtra Assembly elections, of which only 10 emerged victorious. There was a time when Sharad Pawar had a strong support base, but the results of these elections have made the graph of Pawar’s political life plummet.
In such a situation, it seems that on one hand, even age is not on his side and on the other, political equations are also not in his favor. That Sharad Pawar is so helpless is really shocking to political pundits in Maharashtra. Sharad Pawar has always been a grassroots leader, but the current political pieces are continually slipping out of his hands.
