In the Jharkhand Assembly elections, the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-led alliance performed brilliantly and returned to power for the second consecutive time. However, despite this victory, four key ministers of Hemant Soren’s government had to face a crushing defeat in the electoral field. Among the ministers who lost were Health Minister Banna Gupta, Water Resources Minister Mithilesh Thakur, Education Minister Baidyanath Ram and Social Welfare Minister Baby Devi.

‘Maiyan Samman Yojana’ helped in victory
Baby Devi’s department is known for the populist ‘Maiyan Samman Yojana’, which provides monthly financial assistance of Rs 1,000 to women between 18 and 50 years of age. The JMM-led alliance has promised to increase it to Rs 2,500 per month, benefiting around 57 lakh women in the state.
The alliance led by JMM obtained 56 seats
In these elections, the JMM-led alliance registered a landslide victory with a total of 56 seats and retained power in the state. At the same time, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) had to be content with just 24 seats. The BJP won 21 seats and emerged as the second largest party in the state. 41 seats are needed for a majority in the state assembly. (Language)
