There have been many improvements with the Central Government’s initiative to issue Digital Life Certificates for pensioners. With the arrival of the DLC the entire pension process has changed. Now retirees have a great relief with the availability of the digital life certificate.
A senior official of Punjab National Bank said the bank started a special campaign this month to promote technology for pensioners. Under this, the processing of 2.15 lakh DLC was completed in the first 20 days. PNB chief general manager Sanjay Varshney said the introduction of digital life certificate (Jeevan Pramaan) has changed the pension verification process.

He said the DLC has made a big difference as it provides a user-friendly experience as well as reducing processing-related delays. This also ensures that pensioners can maintain their independence and avoid dependence on others for logistical support. He said large camps are being organized at other places including Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Shimla, Ludhiana and Jammu, where the bank has the highest number of pensioners. He said that home banking for pensioners to present their life certificate is also free until December 31, 2024.

Pensioners must present a life certificate annually to continue their pension. Previously, these life certificates were presented only in physical form, which was difficult for pensioners. Following this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi started online submission of digital life certificates in November 2014 to ensure transparency in the system and facilitate pensioners to submit life certificate at their convenience.
