National conference on new criminal laws concludes
The two-day national conference inaugurated by Patna High Court Chief Justice Vinod Chandran concluded at the Bihar Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (BIPARD), Gaya on Sunday. The conference, held on November 23 and 24, brought together jurists, legal experts and senior administrators from across the country. The purpose of this historic event is to introduce three new criminal laws starting July 1, 2024- BNSS, BNS and BSA The objective was to evaluate the implementation and its initial impacts.
On this occasion, Patna High Court Chief Justice K. Many prominent judges from across the country including Vinod Chandran, Justice M. Pancholi, Justice Mohit Kumar Shah and Justice Dr. Anshuman participated. The presence of senior judges from the High Courts of Madhya Pradesh, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Orissa and Punjab-Haryana gave this conference a national character. Bihar Advocate General PK Shahi and 500 newly appointed deputy public prosecutors also participated in it.
Effective application of criminal laws
During this, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in his inaugural speech emphasized the effective application of the new criminal laws. He said the collective participation of judges, legal experts and administrative officials will provide useful information for faster implementation of the justice system.
Six technical sessions were organized at the conference, which were chaired by judges of the high courts. The sessions discussed procedural and operational challenges under the new laws. Practical issues such as protection, default court proceedings and evidence collection were also addressed through 13 programs during the sessions.

The conference brought together representatives from 26 states and union territories and provided an opportunity for a focused discussion on emerging challenges facing the criminal justice system and their solutions. The outstanding participation of the northeastern states further enriched the event.
Bihar Advocate General PK Shahi praised BIPARD Director General KK Pathak while concluding the conference. He said this effort is an important example of bringing together the judiciary, administration and investigative agencies on a single platform, which will prove to be a milestone in the direction of providing speedy justice.
