The 42nd edition of the historic Santosh Trophy national football tournament is currently being played, in which the former Kerala champion managed to advance to the last round. Kerala, which has won the Santosh Trophy 7 times so far, this time also had its best performance , in which they won all their group matches and scored a total of 9 points and secured their place in the last round. For Kerala, in the match against Puducherry, Sajeesh E and Naseeb Rahman scored two goals each, while Gani Ahmed Nigam, Christy Davis and Shijin T scored one goal each.
Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir also reached the final round
Apart from Kerala, Meghalaya and Jammu and Kashmir also managed to secure their place in the final round of Santosh Trophy 2024. In the Group A match, Jammu and Kashmir qualified for the final round of Santosh Trophy after winning the match 5-0 against Ladakh. In Assam, Meghalaya qualified for the final round after drawing 1-1 with the host state in Group E. In the other match of this group, Arunachal Pradesh registered their first win by defeating Nagaland 4-3.
Railways took second place in Group H
While Kerala confirmed their place in the final round of Group H, the Railways team, included in the same group, defeated Lakshadweep 1-0 and secured the second position in the group. Pawan Vijay led his team to victory by scoring a goal in the 57th minute of this match for Railways. Punjab won by defeating Himachal Pradesh 7-0 in which Kamaldeep scored three goals while Tanveer Singh, Jaginder Singh, Jang Bahadur Singh and Gaurav scored 1 goal each.
