Manipur Assembly Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata said in a statement on Sunday that God will decide whether he will resign from his post or not. He made these statements when a large number of people from his constituency came to his residence and asked him not to resign from office.
A section of the state demanded his resignation, to which Satyabrata said: “Whether I resign or not, God must decide and the public is God.” He also said that it is the duty of the MLAs to do everything possible to alleviate the suffering of the public.
Order to reopen schools and colleges canceled
Meanwhile, due to fresh violence in Manipur, the government canceled its decision to open schools and colleges in Imphal Valley and Jiribam district from Monday. Schools and colleges in Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Kakching and Jiribam have been closed for about a week due to prohibitory orders issued in view of the recent violence in the state, an official said. In the latest order issued on Sunday evening, the Directorate of School Education said, “With regard to resumption of normal classes for all schools in the state (including government, government-aided, private and central schools), the reopening date for schools is the 24th. The November order has been canceled and all schools in the valley districts will remain closed on November 25 and 26.
Officials said a similar order was also issued for universities. Meanwhile, according to separate notifications issued by the administration of five districts, the prohibitory orders imposed in the Valley have been relaxed from 5:00 am to 12:00 noon to facilitate the purchase of essential goods.
