A case of kidnapping a married woman from Tentuligaon of Jharigaon block of Nabarangpur district in Odisha, taking her to Maharashtra and exploiting her physically and mentally there has come to light. It is alleged that the woman was forced to have relationships with many people. The woman was held captive in the house for 14 days.
Vasudev Kalar, a man from the same village, forcibly kidnapped the woman. They first took the woman to Raipur, then to Gangapur village, about 170 kilometers from Nagpur in Maharashtra. There they locked her in a house and forced her to have physical relations and suffer mental abuse.
She called her husband and told him the whole incident.
The woman remained confined to the house, but from a conversation overheard through the window she discovered that preparations were being made to sell it. Hearing this, the woman somehow climbed the wall behind the house and reached a dhaba on the national highway, 5 kilometers away. There she called her husband and told him the whole incident.
Kidnapping and rape case registered
The woman’s husband immediately contacted Kadambini Tripathi, president of Matrashray Ashram. A four-person team under the leadership of Kadambini reached Maharashtra with the help of police and freed the woman. After her release, the woman filed a complaint with the police. He filed a case of kidnapping and rape against the accused Vasudev Kalar.
